Hi Tillie Blog Readers!
Do you want to enjoy a sunkissed radiance in the winter months but do you dread the streaky orange effect? Well, dread no more because today I thought we would discuss the many different formulas available that give skin a variety of finishes.
Luckily for us, cosmetic companies have improved their formulas so much over the past decade that you can easily avoid that streaky orange look. We have come along way since since the days when a golden complexion came from the sun’s damaging rays - you just need to get your head around what’s available and what is the most suitable for your skin tone. ’But I have very fair skin’ I hear you say…….that’s ok, you can use bronzer no matter what skin tone you have and the key to achieving a natural finish is not only choosing a lighter shade but choosing a shade that has a shimmer, with golden flecks through out it which will provide a subtle glow. However, all bronzers need to be applied with a light touch (but be careful- the paler your skin, the more care you will need to take with the application). Build the colour up gradually in fine layers using a large brush to buff powder colour over large spaces like your cheekbones, and blend it carefully to keep it looking natural.
Here are some examples of different types of bronzers:
Liquid - A fluid formula best applied with your fingers or a sponge for a subtle colour with or without shimmer. Best for highlighting bone structure, and giving your body sexy sheen. A liquid bronzer is great as it can be added to foundation, body cream or moisturiser, you do need to be quite fast though when applying it as it doesn’t blend as well once semi- dried nor does it blend well with a matte base.
Tint - A gel or watery liquid that provides ultra- sheer colour, it is lightweight and long lasting and creates a natural finish on flawless skin. If however, it is coverage that you’re after then the tint provides very little and it doesn’t work on powdery bases.

Powder - This type of bronzer usually comes in a powder compact or bronzer pearls and is best applied with a fluffy brush for a smooth velvety shimmer . It blends easily and is fantastic for building up layers for a stronger finish. It is also great for the decolletage and shoulders.
Cream - A silky formula that provides a dewy finish. It can slide off quite easily but does offer extra moisture for those with drier skin types. It will enhance your bone structure when you are wearing a creamy base.
Loose Powder - This finely milled loose powder bronzer looks best when applied with a brush or powder puff. It will glide on easily and works well over powder bases.
Stick - This is a multipurpose cream stick of bronzer that comes in numerous different finishes and colours. It is great for easy highlighting and sculpting.
If being bronze will help you fight those winter blues, then head over to our shop page www.ohtillie.com.au/shop and check out Youngblood Lunar Dust Shimmer and Youngblood Mineral Radiance Bronzer. While you’re there, have a look at the Kabuki Brushes which will help you create that beautiful bronzed look.
Just remember to keep your bronzer subtle and as a rule only apply it to areas that the sun naturally touches like your cheeks, no forehead, nose and chin. See diagram below.
